Options are like shares. It is about buying pieces of paper and selling again and making a profit. It's like gambling on the stock market. The exact dynamics I don't really understand.

Exactly what Eliot said. More specifically, you're able to purchase the "option" (选择的权利) to buy/sell a share of stock if it goes above or below a set price.
