Yes, they are basically synonyms. But I think I would prefer "kidnap" when kids are involved, and "abducted" when aliens are involved. "Abducted" just sounds so extra-terrestrial. If neither kids nor aliens are involved, I could use kidnapped or abducted. If kids were kidnapped by aliens, I would say they were abducted.
