This chart is about the proportion of college students taking a part-time job. In grade one, the proportion is 25 percent. In grade two, the proportion increase to 30 percent. In grade three, the proportion is up to 35 percent. In grade four, the proportion is 38 percent, which still increases, but increases not so much. I guess, the reason may be that most students in grade four spend more time on finding a full-time job rather than taking a part-time job. I think, the proportion of college students taking a part-time job is too high. The most important thing for students is study. Why does so many students have to take a part-time job? The school fee is too high? If so, colleges must do something to change that situation.

I listened to BBC news to practice my English listening. It reported two mass shootings happened in USA. One happened at a supermarket where children and parents were shopping for school reopen. Up to 20 people were killed. A 21 year old white man was arrested by police. One girl at the supermarket said she could not believe what happened because she thought her hometown was a safe place. Another mass shooting happened just hours after the previous one at another place. Up to 10 people were killed. It was said that the gunman tried to get into a bar and opened fire after he was stopped.

Buy a bicycle I have bought a bicycle because of the COVID-19 pandemic. I went to work by bus before. However, it's not safe to crowd with a lot of passangers in the small space on a bus. So, I decided to go to work by bicycle. I bought one at a sport store and it spent me 1500 yuan. I’d like to ride a bicycle, even though it’s a long distance between my house and office. It spend me one hour and a half on my way to work by bicycle. However, there’s one thing that upset me very much. The roads are not friendly to bicycle riders. It looks like that the roads are built for cars only. Well, I think government should encourage people to ride bicycles but not to drive cars. Because it can protect the environment, and it’s good for people’s health. That’s why I chose to go to work by bus before, but not because I can’t buy a car.

Work hard on English I have read some books recent years. Some of them are very good books and I like them very much. They have a same feature. They are all translated from English. Well, there would be some informations missed in the process of translation. So, I think it would be a good idea to read original English books, if my English is good enough. The bad news is my English was bad. But I didn't drop the idea of reading original English books for the reason of bad English. I started to work hard on English again after I had graduated from school for many years. The first step was to learn English vocabulary. I have persisted on learning English vocabulary continuously for more than three hundred days. And I have already read more than 10 English books. It's good for me.

The Lexile Framework for Reading Recently, I plan to learn English by reading original English books. Well, if you plan to read original English book, someone must recommend you the lexile framework for reading. English books are divided into many levels relating to the difficulty of reading. You can pick books according to your reading ability. I picked one book called "A Wrinkle in Time". Its lexile score is not high, between 700 and 800. It's the level of 5th grade students in America. However, I can not read the book without an English dictionary. There are so many words I can not recognize. I am disappointed and confused. I have read a book called "Principles of Economics". It's a textbook of collage students. There are also some new words for me. However, I can read it smoothly. I can read a textbook of collage students. At the same time, I can not read a novel of 5th grade students. Can anybody tell me why? Maybe, one of the reasons is the new words. The textbook is difficult, but there are not so many new words for me. The novel maybe simple, but there are too many new words. Most of them are nouns. For example, there are so many kinds of vegetables. The names of them are all new words for me. I can not remember so many names.

Protect the Environment Environmental problem is too big for individual countries and individual people to address. In other words, we have reached the stage where the only way to protect the environment is at an international level. I agree with that. First, the environment is an integrated system. The pollution air ejected from one place can be blown everywhere in the world. For example, there is a river which flows through many countries. If one contry pollute the river in the upstream, whatever the other contries do is in vain. Second, prisoner's dilemma. Prisoner's dilemma is a famous theory in economy. It very match the situation what we counter when we protect the environment. Every country is willing to take advantage of the other. They have the intent to do less in environment protection. If one country do less, the other will follow. It will become a vicious circle. So, the only way to protect the enviroment is at an international level.

Retirement Some people believe that in order to give opportunities to new generation, companies should encourage high level employees who are older than 55 to retire. I can’t agree with that. First, average life of people is getting longer and longer. For example, in Japan, average life is more than eighty. If we encourage people to retire at 55, it’s a waste of Human Resources. Second, government wants to delay people’s retirement. If the retirement age set by government is 65, that means people can’t receive their retirement pension until 65. If they retire at 55, they will have no income in 10 years. Well, if companies would like to give them subsidies in the 10 years, that would be not too bad. Third, senior people are not obstacles of young people. Senior people can be good teachers and directors to help new generation to catch their opportunities

Pollution There’s a misunderstanding that protecting environment is to prevent any pollution. That’s unavailable. Damage to environment is an inevitable consequence of the improvement in the standard of living. It looks like that, when you waste time to play online game, you must drop the option to use the time to study. If we prevent any damage to environment, we will lose our daily life. No cars, no buses, even no cellphones. Do you like to live in that world? We have to make choices, tolerating a little air pollution or losing the convenience of driving cars. It’s difficult to choose. Some people choose clean air, while others choose the convenience of driving cars. Well, we can use market to make the decision for us. We give pollution a price. The one who pollutes air have to pay for it at that price. Then, we only have to ask ourselves whether we are willing to pay for the convenience at that price. If the answer is no, we choose clean air. If the answer is yes, we choose convenience and have to tolerate a little pollution.
