Here in August many of us are taking vacations which of course requires us to use the correct terminology. However, what's the difference between a vacation, vacation time and holidays 🤔
Vacation- usually refers to a special trip away from home. However, it can also simply mean time off aka vacation time
Vacation time- refers to time off from work which can also mean paid time off if your company still compensates you
Holiday- special day on the calendar such as Independence Day
"I will be on holidays" is a common error I see when the person is actually saying "I will be on vacation."
Here's a way to say them all together...
I am excited for Independence Day! This holiday allows me to take vacation time and enjoy a trip to the beach with my family. It will be a great vacation!

Hi all, I recently had a session with an individual who has an interview in English and he is very nervous because he does not want to make mistakes.
However, I'll pass along the advice that I gave him and that is to embrace imperfection. Yes, the interview will require some level of English to be successful but the main goal of an interview is to see what your personality is like and if you'd be a good asset to their team. When we're worried about getting every word right, it can prevent us from being calm, comfortable and showcasing our true personality.
So simply be at ease, speak as well as you can without stressing yourself out and more than anything, show them your personality as that is often the key to getting a second interview 👍

It is a high of 108 degrees F (42 C) here in Spain today which has inspired me to address a couple confusing words when describing warm weather...
hot (adjective) vs. heat (noun)
Today is really hot!
Wow there is a lot of heat outside!
*"More hot" cannot be used, we must say "hotter":
It is hotter here than there.
sunny (adjective) vs. sun (noun)
Make sure you put on sunscreen because it is really sunny outside.
Because of the sun, it is important to apply sunscreen.
humid (adjective) vs. humidity (noun)
Although the temperature is lower, it feels hotter because of the humidity.
The air is really thick because it is humid.

Whether the weather is cold, whether the weather is hot, my father and mother will look farther into the weather to determine if those rain clouds are farther than the others.

Team This vs. Team Next, which are you?
Regardless of what the literature says, this has and will always be a debated topic amongst English speakers. Do you say "What are you doing this weekend?" or "What are you doing next weekend?"
Team This would have you believe "next" refers not to this weekend but the FOLLOWING weekend. However, Team Next would have you believe the NEXT weekend is the soonest option.
I have and will always be a proud member of Team This but will still respect those who choose Team Next 😉

Hey friends, lately pronunciation has been the main topic in recent sessions and I wanted to remind you that if your "TH" sound (that, those father, with, etc.) sounds more like a "Z" or "D" it simply means your tongue is hidden behind your teeth. It's impossible to make the proper "TH" sound without putting your tongue between your teeth. I'd recommend practicing "TH" words in front of a mirror especially when they occur in the middle of the sentence as this can be when we revert to the "Z" or "D" sound the most.
Here's an example 👇
