Hi! I'm Maria, a Finnish, English and French teacher from Finland. In addition to teaching and learning languages, I love music - I sing and play the violin.
When I'm not working on the computer, I help my husband tend our small farm and take care of our cows and other livestock.

I have a master's degree as a French and English teacher, in addition to which I'm a native Finnish speaker. I'm passionate about learning and teaching languages and have lived and taught in Finland, France, Spain, US, and China since I graduated in 2016. I'm known for my patient, thorough and good-humored teaching style. I use textbooks in digital format but also videos, songs and all kinds of online material, my goal being to make learning fun and interesting for you. I aim to work on speaking, listening, reading, and writing equally unless you need to improve one area in particular. Maria has taught me Finnish for almost 2 years! I struggle with learning correct grammar in general and Finnish is particularly hard on that front. Maria went with me at my pace through the first teaching book and helped me learn the basics and then when I stopped being able to do homework or more typical lessons because of my job, she was super helpful in switching over to a more conversational lesson type which helped me improve my ability to talk to people in everyday life. She is a kind, caring, and well-traveled teacher who is patient with students and helped me feel more at home and able to navigate Finnish culture and the language when I moved to Helsinki from the U.S. I could not recommend her more!

I got Maria recommended by a close friend. He has been practicing his finnish with her and although I have just had 1 class with her I will continue as her classes are personalized and seem to have a good flow.
