Miriam

Fantastic teacher. Miriam is very patient and helpful with a friendly bubbly character. First lesson was a great experience.

Miriam opens the lesson with us chatting about the week since the last lesson. That leads us to talk about other things such as her weeks long visit to California and Las Vegas and my experiences in both places. Then we move into a more structured conversation. Miriam poses several questions to me in the chat and I respond to them. One example is what uniquely American dish would I recommend that a foreign tourist try? Another example is to discuss a situation in which I had to make a difficult decision and the process I used to make the decision. These questions not only keep the lesson focused, but also challenge me to discuss topics that may not necessarily be in my comfort zone. The emphasis in the lessons is definitely on speaking and listening with occasional corrections in vocabulary or grammar.

I’m delighted that I found Miriam. This was our first lesson together and I am definitely looking forward to the next one. Miriam is personable and enthusiastic and did a wonderful job at establishing a rapport. We talked about ourselves a bit, and I found her Italian clear and easy to understand. She asked good questions and offered non-intrusive suggestions/corrections to my overenthusiastic Italian :-)). We wrapped up the lesson agreeing on how we will approach the next and subsequent lessons.

Miriam uses discussion questions to loosely guide the conversation. One of the things I really like about her is that she is very flexible in the way we approach the conversation because I have a tendency to go off on tangents. One of the things that really helps. The lessons is that Miriam is an engaged and energetic conversation partner. Not only is she intelligent, but she chooses interesting topics for the questions. The comments she makes make the conversations more natural and richer.

Miriam is terrific. The lesson has a theme or structure but it’s casual enough to allow us to follow the flow of the conversation. Today’s questions were interesting and thought provoking. The time flew by!

I had a great first lesson with Miriam. She's very energetic, easy to talk to, and not at all intimidating. I'll be scheduling more lessons with her!
