Chinese with Ben

I've been taking lessons with Benfang since October. He is always well prepared for class and brings alot of energy. He uses Chinese the whole time and introduces really useful vocabulary and sentence patterns through normal conversation. We cover alot in each session, but it flies by and I look forward to the next one. In the past, I've always kept my sentences super short as I'm not confident speaking. With Benfang, I feel like I can expand alot more and am able to talk about things using more detail and accuracy. Since each lesson builds on what we did before, it's getting easier to recall and use structures more automatically. I sometimes wish I had contacted Ben earlier. I'm increasingly realizing how targeted learning for the HSK1-3 (and probably all further levels) differs from what is needed in real life. Ben makes each lesson so practical, lively and relaxed that you almost become addicted to more. There's nothing like having someone who understands their profession!

I’ve been studying Mandarin for about a year. I started with a few months of self-study and I tend to be a fairly independent learner who already spends a lot of time on vocabulary and input outside of class. What I was looking for in a teacher was someone who could help turn that passive knowledge into active speaking ability. After only a few lessons, I already notice that words and chunks I knew passively are becoming easier to produce in conversation. The lessons are topic-based and conversation-driven, with materials shared in advance so you can prepare vocabulary and ideas beforehand. The teacher’s comprehensible-input approach is systematic, and the classes focus on actually using the language rather than just going through a textbook.

I’ve been taking lessons with Ben, and I’m genuinely impressed. His interactive teaching style sets him apart, it’s nothing like the dry, textbook-style study you may get with many teachers. Every session with Ben feels engaging and stimulating, with real conversation and active practice that keep you involved the whole time. He explains concepts clearly, adapts to your pace, and always finds ways to make the material relatable and easy to understand. His lesson notes are another huge plus and incredibly helpful for reviewing after class. You can tell he puts real effort into making sure students not only learn, but remember and apply what they learn.
