Anri

あんり先生 and I have been working together for about a year now. In our lessons we talk about various topics from our daily lives, sometimes going on outdoor walks in Japan or working from manga, textbooks and videos. It is always a super fun part of my day and the difference in my Japanese skills are quite tangible. 今日は、ホンダシビックタイプＲは新幹線とたいだい同じ速さを学びました 🏎️🚅☺️

Thank you Anri sensei for another great lesson today! We’ve had countless interesting classes and today, sensei had some innovative idea that by watching a video together, she simultaneously went through some useful phrases that I was never aware of by watching dramas or Japanese TV shows. It’s a great method that I would recommend to everyone who is keen to improve their daily usage of Japanese phrases. あんり先生、今日もありがとうございました。 先生の授業はいつも面白いですが今日のレッスンは一緒にビデオを見ながらいろんな日本語の言葉を教えていただきました。日常にも使えるし、斬新的な方法を皆さんにおすすめします。

Anri-san is very patient and supportive of my broken Japanese and helping me progress!

Anri is an engaging conversation partner and a very knowledgeable teacher. We keep our conversations loosely structured, often prompted by something that we did, saw, or read in our personal lives. This format lets us ask questions that introduce me to new vocabulary and information about Japanese culture in every lesson. Anri lets me stop and ask about unfamiliar words or grammar. She often catches and corrects mistakes I make in grammar, pitch accent pronunciation, and natural-sounding speech. She also records our conversations so that I can review it. I have felt my comprehension and confidence in spoken Japanese and my knowledge of Japan gradually increase through Anri's lessons.

As a complete beginner I appreciated that Anri started from the foundations of Japanese language - sounds, pronunciation and the intention behind them. She embeds Japanese culture, values and traditions into language learning. Anri was willing to customise the lessons to suit my needs and it felt like a shared exploration rather than a typical lesson. I'm looking forward to continuing.
