My name is Thomas and I grew up bilingually with German and Slovenian. Having discovered my passion for languages very early, I have worked hard to learn to speak and write 11 of them on a level of fluency. I have now been working as a language teacher for 23 years, out of which 18 as an independent teacher.
I have been using italki to learn languages so far, but I have now decided to try out teaching here as well. It is my hope that my beginner's profile does not make you mistakenly assume that I am a beginner in the field of teaching as I have been having about 40 hours of classes weekly in the last 20 or so years.Показать перевод

When teaching I take both my schedule and my classes seriously. When a class is scheduled, it is part of my weekly plan and I get ready for it. I conduct a detailed journal of what I have been doing with my student, I write down every session, thus it is easy for me to check what we did on our past sessions.
I used to teach more conventionally, meaning with my students being in the same room as me. In 2021 I started using Skype for my classes and things work out very well. I am always punctual as I respect the time my students take for our class, likewise I do appreciate if my students do the same.Мои уроки и стиль преподавания

I try to conduct my classes in a way that resembles the conventional school as much as possible. Meaning a thorough explanation of the grammar with several carefully tailored examples, exercises, homework, checking the student's progress, listening and reading comprehensions and once the student's knowledge progresses sufficiently, having a conversation class.Мой учебный материал

teacher and coordinatorI have been working as a formally registered freelance tutor/teacher and translator since 2006. Prior to that I had worked as a language teacher at different language schools in Ljubljana from 2000.
I usually conduct about 35 to 50 hours of classes weekly.

I had explained prior to the lesson that I wanted to build confidence and gain experience in speaking.
Thomas made sure that I was able to spend most of the lesson speaking, using appropriate natural pauses in the conversation to point out errors and giving constructive feedback.
I was nervous before the lesson but I felt at ease during and afterwards thanks to Thomas' approach.

Die erste Stunde mit Thomas war sehr hilfreich und hat großen Spaß gemacht. Es gab schon super viele Informationen, die mir helfen, demnächst in Slowenien zurecht zu kommen. Thomas erklärt strukturiert und geduldig und geht gut auf die individuellen Bedürfnisse ein. Danke und gerne wieder!

Die Stunden mit Thomas sind sehr hilfreich und er reagiert super auf meine speziellen Fragen. Die Präsentation/die Aufzeichnungen sind gut strukturiert gestaltet und es ist für mein absolutes Anfängerniveau höchst komfortabel, dass er perfekt Deutsch spricht. Ich kann den Unterricht nur wärmstens empfehlen!
