I am a committed and professional teacher with many years' experience of preparing students for IELTS and Cambridge suite examinations. I have a strong academic background and always approach lessons with energy and kindness. I live in a small town in the south west of the UK. My love of language comes from my two passions: reading and travelling. For me, travelling means learning new language in order to talk to new people. Living in Japan allowed me to start learning Japanese which I have continued. I also enjoy practising yoga and swimming as these help me to feel calm and relaxed.Показать перевод

I am student centred and love getting to know the aims and interests of my students. I have a varied background and have supported students with diverse aims. I spent eight years with an academic focus teaching English in secondary schools and helping students apply to British universities. Prior to that I supported international students at a British university enrolled on a wide range of courses from undergraduate Nutrition to a PhD in Sculpture. I have devised and run short courses for groups of students visiting the UK with cultural interests as well as helping students to develop language for specific job roles.Мои уроки и стиль преподавания
My lessons will focus on your aims and interests as this is the fastest way for you to make progress. Lessons will be well organised with a clear focus, but the atmosphere will be friendly and relaxed. There will be no fear of making mistakes as this is an essential part of learning. I will create presentations and resources specifically for you. I love the easy ability to share information online and will use shared docs to enable instant feedback on writing. Homework can be set and feedback given, and if useful to you I can make videos to support your learning out of class. Some students work towards recognised examinations, while others enjoy exploring literature, history, philosophy or politics through discussion, reading, listening and writing. The variety of one to one teaching is rewarding and enjoyable.

Refugee English Language Tutor ManagerI established a volunteer refugee teaching programme. I recruited qualified English language teachers following safer recruitment practices. I assessed the needs of tutees and matched them to tutors. I also undertook tutoring myself. The programme ran for 18 months until it was no longer needed.

Joanne is a very active and friendly tutor. She always prepares suitable materials based on your needs and requests for each class. She is well-organized and professional. At the beginning of every session, she asks if I have any questions or issues with the previous lesson. At the end of each lesson, she provides a helpful summary of what we covered, including my mistakes and extra tips to follow, which I appreciate. This makes practicing the lesson clear and effective, and it's easy to revisit the material for review at any time.

She introduces many poems, and I really enjoy reading them and discussing them with her. I also found that my writing skills are improved a lot. Nice talking as always. We talked about various issues by using the BBC interview with Zadie Smith. In addition, we talked about a film ‘perfect days’ , the setting of which is Asakusa, Tokyo where I am living. Fascinating!
