It is also important not to speak too quickly.  We use pauses but not long ones and not too often.
Listen to this:
I went to the sea to go to the beach two weeks ago.  My brother and I wanted to go swimming.  The weather was ... quite hot.  The water was very relieving.

みなさん、こんにちは。
今日は朝からレッスンがあったのですが、キャンセルになってしまったんです。
で、「あー、ジョギングしようかな、どうしようかな」って、10歳の娘に言ったら「走ったほうがいいよ。だって、ママすぐに食べちゃうじゃん」と言われたので、いつものコースを走ることにしました。
週に2，3回、5キロぐらい走っているんですよ。少し涼しくなってきたので、朝のジョギングは気持ちがいいんですが、走るまでがつらい。走ってしまったら、気持ちがいいんですけどね。
というわけで、娘の登校のタイミングで家を出て30分ぐらい走りました。なので、今は爽快（そうかい）な気分です。

秋と言えば、「読書の秋」ですね。私はテレビを見るというよりも読書をするのが好きです。本屋さんに行くとついつい買ってしまうのが「賞を受賞した本」「たくさん売れている本」なんです。日本語教師という職業柄（しょくぎょうがら）なのか、社会の変遷（へんせん）に興味があるからなのか、それともただのミーハーなのか、それはよくわかりませんが、「今話題になっている本」を買ってしまうんです。あ、「ミーハー」って、流行に飛びつくって意味なんですが、昔流行（はや）った言葉なのでもう死語（しご）かもしれないです。
で、夏休みに、どこの本屋さんでも一番売り出されていた、逢坂冬馬（あいさかとうま）さん作の『同士少女よ、敵を撃て』という本を買って、一気読みしました。2022年に本屋大賞を受賞した本なんです。読み終わった後は、「あー、期待を裏切らない作品」「戦争は本当に嫌だ」「戦争中は、女も男も全く関係なくなって、人間が人間じゃなくなるんだな」って。この本は、壮大な歴史を背景に、個的なドラマを作り上げている作品なんです。戦場になだれ込み、本に吸い込まれるように読んでしまいました。
それから、先週読んだ本は『准教授・高槻彰良の推察（じゅんきょうじゅ・たかつきあきらのすいさつ）』です。これ、ドラマにもなっていたんですね。生徒さんにこの本を紹介してもらいました。これ、面白い！！
怪異事件を捜査するミステリーなんですが、日本語がとてもきれいなんですよね。（そう感じるのは私だけかな）
しかも、高槻准教授は民俗学が専門ですから、ミステリーを読みながら日本文化も理解できる本です。そして、深町尚哉（ふかまち なおや）という大学生が出てきますから、日本人の大学生活も垣間（かいま）見ることができるんです。これはシリーズ本で、私が読んだのは1巻です。7巻ぐらいまでありますから、この先も楽しみです。
ぜひ皆さんも読んでみてください。

読書の秋➀

おはようございます！Atsushiです。
北海道に帰ってきましたので、今日は北海道からとっています。

今日の天気ははれ。
気温は23℃、大阪に比べると10℃ぐらい低いです。
とても涼しいですね。


今日はあいづちについて。
日本人と話している時に、
へー、とか、
うんうん、とか
言われたことはありませんか？
それがあいづちです。

相手の話に言葉で反応して、会話をスムーズにします。

では、なぜあいづちというのか。
それは、昔、鍛冶 (かじ) (きんぞくをたたいて物を作る人)の二人の職人が鉄の製品を作る時、リズム良く交互に槌(つちーhammer)を打ち合わせて作っていました。

そうやって、あいてのつちにあわせることから、相手の話に反応することを、あいづちと言うようになりました。


あいづちには、
へー
うんうん
それで？
そうなんや！
ほんまにー
など、いろいろあります。
そして、人によります。


日本はあいづちが多い国です。
相手の話を聞いていることをあいづちやうなずきなどで伝えることができます。

一方、ほかの国では、あいづちが多すぎると良くないところもあるようですので、そういったコミュニケーションの文化、習慣を知ることも大切ですね。

Today we read a story about a 95 year old woman in the UK.

We're going to go through a new story today and it begins with anger as a 95 year old (is)  told to take out her bins. Now, I just want to give you some background to this first of all. So, here in the UK, we have to put our bins on the streets for them to be collected and emptied.
So we have large bins, which are referred to as wheelie bins, And we must put those on the street. Depending on your relationship with your neighbours if you live in an apartment block, someone may do this for you. But the council employees, the people who come to empty the bins, will not come upon your property to collect them. They used to. But they don't any more. Depending on the council and depending on their funding, You may be able to request them to help you if you're old or infirm. As money is tight  these days for everyone, more and more councils are refusing to do this. A council is simply a local area government.
 Now we're going to read through a story here about what's happened to a 95 year old. Now, bearing in mind that here in the UK, we don't generally mix with our neighbours unless we know them very well or are related to them.
As I’ve often told you, we view  the Government almost like a mother or father, we expect them to do the things, which perhaps in your country is done by a community.
