子供の狐は、町の灯を めあてに雪あかりの野原を
よちよちやっていきました。
はじめのうちは一つきりだった灯が二つになり
三つになり、はては十にも ふえました。
狐の子供はそれを見て、灯には星と同じように、
赤いのや黄いのや青いのがあるんだなと思いました。
やがて町に はいりましたが 通りの家々は もうみんな
戸を閉めてしまって、高い窓から暖かそうな光が、
道の雪の上に落ちているばかりでした。
けれど表の看板の上には たいてい小さな電燈が
ともっていましたので、狐の子は、それを見ながら、
帽子屋を探していきました。
