así que (so)
disculpen el retraso (I'm sorry about the delay).

لم تكن تعرف لمن تكتب.
ولا إن كانت رسالتها ستصل.

جلست قرب النافذة،
والليل ثقيل،
والصمت متقطّع بأصوات القصف.

منذ سنوات،
والحرب لا تغادر المكان.
قصفٌ متكرر،
وبيوت تهدمت،
وخوفٌ صار جزءًا من اليوم.

أمسكت قلمًا،
وورقة كانت في حقيبة طفلها.

وكتبت:

“أنا أم من الغوطة.
أكتب لأن الحرب
وقصف نظام الأسد
سرقا منّا أشياء كثيرة،
لكنهما لم يأخذا صوتي.”

قالت إن أبناءها ينامون متلاصقين،
ليس خوفًا فقط،
بل لأن الأمان صار نادرًا.

قالت:

“أعدّ أنفاسهم كل ليلة،
بعد كل غارة،
وكأنني أطمئن نفسي
أن الغد ما زال ممكنًا.”

تحدّثت عن صباحات بلا مدارس،
أغلقتها الحرب،
وعن دفاتر تحوّلت إلى أوراق للرسم،
وعن ضحكة صغيرة
تظهر فجأة…
فتُنقذ اليوم كله.

كتبت:

“أخاف عليهم من القصف،
لكنني أبتسم أمامهم.
لأن الأم
يجب أن تبدو أقوى
مما تشعر.”

لم تكتب عن السياسة،
بل عن أثرها.
عن الخبز القليل،
عن الماء المحسوب،
عن الانتظار الطويل.

ثم أضافت في آخر الرسالة:

“إذا قرأتَ هذه الكلمات،
فتذكّر أن ما يحدث هنا
حربًا
وتذكّر أننا أمهات
نحلم فقط
أن يكبر أطفالنا…
بسلام.”

لم توقّع باسمها.
لم تذكر تاريخًا.

لكن الرسالة بقيت.
مثل الغوطة…
تحت القصف،
لكنها لم تصمت.

Students regularly ask me, "How do I know what comes after a verb?" If a verb takes another verb as a complement, it is usually either a full infinitive or a gerund (e.g., "to do" or "doing").  Bare infinitives (e.g., "do") can only be complements for a small number of verbs, but these verbs are very common.  In this article, I take a look at some verbs that take bare infinitives as complements.
