- Quand j’étais petit, raconte Pépète le lapin, ma maman m’a un jour demandé d’aller chercher six carottes dans le champ d’à côté.
En faisant des petits sauts, j’y suis allé. Hop ! hop ! hop ! Pas de danger à droite ? Rien à gauche ? Hop ! hop ! hop !
J’ai arraché les carottes et je suis rentré à toute vitesse à la maison. Maman s’est mise à crier. J’en avais pris beaucoup trop ! Il n’y avait plus de place dans la cuisine ! Ce n’est pas ma faute, je ne sais pas compter jusqu’à six !

Hi, I'm Anatoly here and today I'd like to talk about vague language in an interview. 

So what is vague language? 

When you're trying to communicate something to an interviewer and you use vague terms like I'd like to help the company achieve its goals, I like this industry overall. Or this position is very exciting. 

Can you hear that there's no specificity when it comes to showing exactly that you've thought about an issue, showing the recruiter that you've gone through their website, you've looked at their products, you've considered their mission and vision and maybe you've seen their market share or the size of the company or if you've dug a little deeper. 

Maybe you've seen some reviews from people who work there, like on Glassdoor, right? 

Because you want to come into an interview from the perspective of being an employee. What does that mean? It's knowing enough so that when they're communicating with you, they feel like you're one of them.

And when they feel that you are one of them, what happens? They start to, well, it starts to diminish the doubt in them or they start to have less and less doubt about you because they are like, well, he or she is one of us. They communicate as if they know exactly who we are or they use the vocabulary that we use or they are aligned with our mission.

You should say:

Who this person is
When/where you met this person
What you did
And explain why you think this person is interesting

Here are soem extra words you can use in your answers!

off the top of your head: from the knowledge you have in your memory

within spitting distance of something: next to or extremely near something

give or take: possibly a little more or less than the amount or time mentioned

hooked (on something): enjoying something very much, so that you want to do it, see it, etc. as much as possible

go into detail (about​/​on): to mention many facts or aspects of a situation

know sth like the back of your hand: to have very good and detailed knowledge of something

blow away: to impress someone very much or make them very excited

let off​/​blow off steam: to express your feelings of anger or excitement without harming anyone
