描述
How to place an event in time in Malayalam — days, weeks, months, years, and the small words that let you tell a story instead of listing facts. I am Dr. Reshmi R. Nair, an applied linguist from Kerala. I have taught hundreds of learners to speak Malayalam as it is actually spoken. THE DAYS, INCLUDING TWO ENGLISH CANNOT DO IN ONE WORD ഇന്ന് (innu) - today ഇന്നലെ (innale) - yesterday നാളെ (naale) - tomorrow മറ്റന്നാൾ (mattannaal) - the day after tomorrow മിനിഞ്ഞാന്ന് (mininjaannu) - the day before yesterday THE LARGER UNITS ദിവസം (divasam) - day ആഴ്ച (aazhcha) - week മാസം (maasam) - month വർഷം (varsham) / കൊല്ലം (kollam) - year THE THREE MODIFIERS THAT DO MOST OF THE WORK കഴിഞ്ഞ (kazhinja) - last, past ഈ (ee) - this അടുത്ത (adutha) - next കഴിഞ്ഞ ആഴ്ച (kazhinja aazhcha) - last week അടുത്ത വർഷം (adutha varsham) - next year BEFORE, AFTER, FROM, UNTIL — AND THEY GO AFTER THE PHRASE മുൻപ് (munpu) - before, ago കഴിഞ്ഞ് (kazhinju) - after രണ്ട് ദിവസം മുൻപ് (randu divasam munpu) - two days ago മുതൽ (muthal) - from വരെ (vare) - until തിങ്കൾ മുതൽ വെള്ളി വരെ (thinkal muthal velli vare) - Monday to Friday FREQUENCY ദിവസവും (divasavum) - daily ആഴ്ചയിൽ ഒരിക്കൽ (aazhchayil orikkal) - once a week എപ്പോഴും (eppozhum) - always സാധാരണ (saadhaarana) - usually പലപ്പോഴും (palappozhum) - often ചിലപ്പോൾ (chilappol) - sometimes ഇടയ്ക്ക് (idaykku) - now and then അപൂർവമായി (apoorvamaayi) - rarely ONE THING WORTH KNOWING The Malayalam weekday names carry the same seven planets, in the same order, as English, French and Japanese — one Hellenistic invention that travelled east and west and survives intact in daily speech. When did you last speak Malayalam out loud? Answer using മുൻപ്. #LearnMalayalam #Malayalam #MalayalamGrammar
