こんにちは～！イードムバラク！サウジの日本語の先生、佳子です＾＾
ラマダンとイードが終わり、16日間の長い学校の休みも終わり、今日からいつもの毎日が始まりました！1週間前までは11時に起きていましたが、ちょっとずつ生活リズムを調整して、今日はなんとか6:40に起きました。でも、朝早く起きるとやっぱり体が良い感じです！

さて今日は前回の話に関連して、「サウジでの運転」について話しますよ～。
まずは日本との違いから。日本では車は左側通行ですが、サウジでは右側通行です。そして地域によって違うかもしれないですが、私が住んでいる地域では、ほとんどの信号機に待ち時間が表示されています。日本では見たことないです。サウジでは朝のピーク時には交通警察が信号を操作します。また、サウジには環状交差点（ラウンドアバウト）が多いです。
信号がある交差点で赤信号でも右折できるのがいいです。住宅街では減速を促すため、減速帯が設けられています。サウジでは日本と比べて爆走する車が多いので、住宅街では必須ですね。気を付けなければいけないのが、信号前で線をはみ出さないこととスピード違反のための監視カメラの前を走るときは絶対に制限速度を守ること。大きな道路では監視カメラがついていて、簡単に違反が見つかってしまいます。
駐車についても大きな違いがあります。住宅街にある学校、クリニック、小さなお店が集まった通りなど、公式の駐車場がなく、建物の周りに停めるしかありません。ピーク時には道路が大変なことになります。家の前に車を停めるときも線の中であれば路上駐車OKです。ちなみにサウジでは前向き駐車が圧倒的に多いですね～。日本では後ろ向きが一般的です。私は日本で後ろ向き駐車で手こずっていたので、助かりました。
サウジで運転し始めて9か月が経ちました。最初は本当に怖かったのですが、慣れるものですね。最近は、学校と家との往復だけではなく、行けるお店や公園も増えました。昔は外に行くときは全部夫に頼るしかなかったのでちょっと申し訳なかったのですが、今は気軽に近くのスーパーに行ったり、公園に散歩に行ったりできるので自由を感じています！ただ本当にサウジでは変な運転をする人が多いので、いつも気を引き締めて運転しないと！

それでは、今日のフレーズを確認しましょう～！
今日のフレーズは最後に出た「気を引き締める」です。意味は「気持ちをしっかりと集中させ、真剣に取り組む」です。

LANGUAGE NOTES
• “Hi” is an informal way of saying “hello.” Notice that the “i” sound in “hi” is extended, to 
show that Jane is very pleased to see Helen.
• “How’s it going?” is an informal way of saying “How are you?”
• “Fine, thanks—and you?” Notice the rising intonation on “and you?” This shows that 
Helen is interested in what Jane has to say.
• “Where are you off to?” is an informal way of saying “Where are you going?” Notice the 
falling intonation since this is an information question, not a “yes/no” question.
• “To the library.” Notice that Helen does not say “I’m going” here because that 
information was already established in the question “Where are you off to?”
• “Oh, no” is a way of saying “I sympathize with you” or “I understand you are not happy.”
• “See you later” is an informal way of saying “goodbye.”

El Año Nuevo es una ocasión especial en todo el mundo, y México no es la excepción. Este país vibrante y lleno de cultura tiene sus propias tradiciones únicas para recibir el año nuevo, mezclando la alegría festiva con el folclore que caracteriza a sus celebraciones. Aquí exploraremos algunas de las tradiciones más famosas que los mexicanos adoptan para dar la bienvenida al nuevo año.
Una de las costumbres más arraigadas en México es el consumo de las "uvas de la suerte". Pocos minutos antes de la medianoche, las familias se reúnen alrededor de la mesa con 12 uvas en la mano. Cada uva representa un deseo para cada mes del próximo año. El desafío radica en comer cada uva en el ritmo adecuado, coincidiendo con las campanadas que anuncian la llegada del nuevo año. La elección del color de la ropa interior para la noche de Año Nuevo es una tradición que ha ganado popularidad en México. Cada color simboliza un deseo diferente. Por ejemplo, el rojo se asocia con el amor y la pasión, el amarillo con la prosperidad y el éxito, y el blanco con la paz y la armonía. Muchas personas se toman en serio esta tradición y cuidadosamente eligen su ropa interior para asegurarse de atraer lo que desean para el próximo año.
