Firstly We Have To Dive Into Why People Study When They Do Not Have Any Real Purpose Or Need. 

Many people continue studying a language without a pressing need. Often, it’s because they recognize it’s good for personal development or career prospects, or sometimes they simply have extra time on their hands. In other words, they have nothing better to do. It is alright not to have a clear goal on learning a language. It is a known fact some people go about their lives questioning the very meaning of life itself too. The focus of this episode is to add enjoyment to your language learning because when one does not have a real purpose, staying motivated enough to keep on track then becomes a big challenge. When people pursue activities "because it’s good for them," they may struggle with engagement.  (Deci & Ryan, 2000).

みなさん　こんにちは。
みなさんは　受験戦争って言葉を聞いたことがありますか。
中国や韓国も大学受験が大変だとよく聞きます。
日本も大変です。日本も学歴社会です。
最近の日本の首都圏、つまり東京などでは大学受験だけでなく、中学受験も大変なのです。
小学生が夜9時まで塾に通います。これは、いい中学校に入学するためです。いい中学校、高校に行けば、いい大学に入れる可能性が広がります。なぜ、小学生が夜遅くまで塾に通わなくてはいけないのでしょうか。
実は、私自身も子供を塾に通わせています。これは、日本の大学入試制度に大きな問題があると思っています。この問題については、また今度じっくりとお話したいと思いますが、要は、受験勉強を早く始めたほうが有利ということが言えるのです。だから、小学生から塾通いが始まります。塾代は決して安くはないです。つまり、日本の受験には、富裕層が有利なのです。小学生はたくさん遊びたいです。遊ぶべきです。なので、小学生の塾通い問題に関しては、日々自問自答（じもんじとう）しています。
一方で、平等をモットーにしている日本の公立小学校の勉強は、簡単です。なので、IQの高い子供たち、よくできる子供にとっては、学校の勉強はつまらないのです。だから、優秀な子供たち自身も、中学校では、もう少し難しいことが勉強したいと望むようになります。でも、中学校の入試問題はとても難しいです。国語などは、大学受験と同じような問題が出てくることもあるほどです。だから、いい中学校に行こうと思えば、塾に行かなければなりません。
特に中学受験は教育格差を生んでいるとも言われています。新聞、テレビ、インターネットでも教育格差の問題についてたくさん日々取り上げられています。
5月23日の日経新聞で青山学院大学の耳塚（みみづかひろあき）特任教授が教育格差の問題について述べていました。教育格差は親の所得格差、学歴格差だと彼は指摘していました。日本の教育は「平等」ということで知られています。
学校で平等に学ぶことで身分に関係なく、誰もが学歴を得るチャンスがあるというのがもともとの考えでした。しかし、昨今は、お金がある家庭は放課後に子供を塾へ行かせます。学校の勉強だけでは、難関大学、難関中学への合格は難しいからです。
難関大学に入学させるために、難関中学へ入れたいと金銭的に余裕のある親は願います。そして、その親たちは高学歴集団である傾向があります。なので、高所得家庭かつ高学歴の家庭では、難関私立中学へ行き、難関大学を目指すという道が自ずとできてしまっているように思います。
日本の東京で子育てしている私自身もこの学歴社会、このいびつな社会に息苦しさを感じています。
でも、日本で生きていく上では、子供を高学歴にさせたいと思うのが、親心です。そして、外国人の皆さんに、ぜひこの学歴社会日本を変える立役者（たてやくしゃ）になってほしいと思っています。
