描述
Class 250 is not a summary. It is about what this course has really been for, and three things to take with you. The argument is that the subject was never only Malayalam. It was what happens when a person takes a place seriously and is willing to be bad at a language in public until it stops being translated. Then three things to keep: a habit (three sentences out loud every night), one sentence to say whenever somebody switches to English, and one person who will speak Malayalam with you. Words and phrases in this class: ഞാൻ മലയാളം പഠിക്കുകയാണ്. മലയാളത്തിൽ പറയാമോ? (njaan malayaalam padikkukayaanu. malayaalathil parayaamo?) – I'm learning Malayalam, could you say it in Malayalam? ഞാൻ മലയാളം പഠിക്കുകയാണ് (njaan malayaalam padikkukayaanu) – I am learning Malayalam മലയാളത്തിൽ പറയാമോ? (malayaalathil parayaamo?) – could you say it in Malayalam? മലയാളം പഠിക്കുകയാണ് (malayaalam padikkukayaanu) – learning Malayalam (with the I dropped) ഞാൻ (njaan) – I മലയാളം (malayaalam) – the Malayalam language മലയാളത്തിൽ (malayaalathil) – in Malayalam പഠിക്കുക (padikkuka) – to learn, to study പഠിക്കുകയാണ് (padikkukayaanu) – am in the middle of learning പറയാമോ? (parayaamo?) – could you say it? In this class: • What two hundred and fifty classes have really been about • Why a second set of defaults is worth the trouble • Three things to keep: a habit, a sentence and a person • Why learning a language you did not have to learn says so much Quizzes below.
