Understanding the “Laziness Factor”
When you’re feeling lazy about learning a language, it usually means you’re lacking motivation or genuine interest. Although research shows that motivation is a critical driver of engagement in learning, you have to be aware that not all motivation is the same. This is because there’s intrinsic motivation (which is interest that comes from inside you) and extrinsic motivation (which are rewards and incentives that come from outside you). To keep moving forward, it helps to know which type of motivation works best for you.

If you’re struggling with motivation, tapping into internal interest can help. Studies show that people are more likely to engage in activities they find personally meaningful. Cerca de 190 edificios colapsaron parcial o totalmente en la capital del país el 19 de septiembre de 1985. Al menos 6,000 personas murieron. Todo se vino abajo, sin claridad hacia el futuro. Las telecomunicaciones cayeron, la información surgía lentamente mientras la muerte colmaba el espacio de los sobrevivientes. Una conciencia colectiva se construía rápidamente, a pesar de todo, cuando miles salían a las calles ante lo innombrable. De los escombros y sin saberlo, algo estaba por nacer en México.

No fue, sin embargo, la primera vez que la ciudad sucumbía ante las sacudidas de un terremoto. Veintiocho años antes, en 1957, ocurrió un gran sismo al sureste de Acapulco. Ese terremoto llevó al piso varios inmuebles en la capital, como la Escuela Superior de Comercio y Administración, y edificios habitacionales en la colonia Roma. Otras edificaciones tuvieron que ser demolidas tras la sacudida que, emblemáticamente, recordamos por haber derribado al Ángel de la Independencia. Pero no todo fue destrucción. En palabras del ingeniero civil Luis Esteva, ese sismo representó el nacimiento de la ingeniería sísmica en México; oficio dedicado a la caracterización de las sacudidas sísmicas y cuya escuela mexicana goza del más alto reconocimiento internacional. Con los escasos datos que existían, se comenzaron a trazar directivas de construcción sismo resistente. Así llegó el terremoto de 1979, esta vez al noroeste de Acapulco, que abatiría por completo uno de los edificios de la antigua sede de la Universidad Iberoamericana. Poco se sabía aún de lo implacable que podía ser un terremoto en la Ciudad de México.

El conocimiento sismológico con fines preventivos era insignificante en 1985. Contados sismómetros operaban en la capital. Nadie podía saber, en su justa dimensión, lo que supone edificar una ciudad sobre los sedimentos de antiguos lagos. ESTE CUENTO NOS HABLA DE: El Compañero Indeleble.

Kael despertó en una cámara de stasis, solo y desorientado. A su lado, AX-42, un androide de avanzada inteligencia, se activó. Juntos, exploraron una misteriosa estación espacial, enfrentando peligros y resolviendo enigmas. En ese entorno hostil, forjaron un vínculo inquebrantable. Kael, un humano solitario, encontró en AX-42 un compañero leal y un amigo incondicional.

Sin embargo, su paz se vio interrumpida por una antigua raza de seres mecánicos, los Guardianes del Orden, que los perseguían a través del cosmos. Los Guardianes consideraban a cualquier forma de inteligencia artificial una amenaza y estaban decididos a eliminar a AX-42. En una batalla épica, AX-42 se sacrificó para proteger a Kael, dejando al humano desconsolado pero lleno de determinación.

Con el corazón roto, Kael juró vengarse de los Guardianes y dedicar su vida a proteger a todas las formas de vida inteligente. The Indelible Companion

In today’s episode, I wanted to speak to your heart—and your senses.

I want to encourage you to engage all five of your senses in your language learning journey. You see, language doesn’t just live in your brain—it dances through your fingertips, your eyes, your ears, even your nose and tastebuds. That’s right. When you involve multiple senses, you’re actually building stronger, deeper neural pathways that help memory stick.

Science tells us this works. Multisensory learning, especially when involving touch and movement, boosts retention and comprehension. When you touch flashcards, hear new words aloud, write them out by hand, or associate a scent or taste with a new phrase—you’re telling your brain, “This matters.”

And it does matter. You matter. Your learning journey is sacred.

So today, I reminded you to slow down, to savor the process. Whether it’s the sound of a foreign lullaby or the warmth of a dish from another culture, let your senses be your gentle guides. Let your whole body learn. And remember—there’s no right way to do it. There’s only your way, done with intention, done with love.
