Are the sentences “What if she came over WHEN the tank WAS empty?” and “What if she came over AND the tank WERE empty?” correct?

Both sentences are correct, but have different meanings.
Use "was" for factual or likely past conditions. ("I was worried because the tank was empty.")
Use "were" for present/future hypotheticals. ("What if the tank were empty?")
