Dear Italki tutors,
Would be grateful if u could check my IELTS response to this task:
The line graph shows how much money overseas visitors spent in the UK from 1980 - 2010 and the pie charts show the reasons for their visits in 1980 and 2010.
Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features and make comparisons where relevant.
Write at least 150 words.
My response:
The line graph gives information about the amount of money spent by foreigners in the UK over a 30-year period, whereas the pie chart illustrates the major causes for their visit.
Overall, the money spent by overseas visitors has increased dramatically over the years. The reasons behind their visits changed percentagewise with family or friends visit taking over business, and holiday remaining in the top.
According to the line graph, in 1980, around 8 million pounds was spent by overseas visitors in the UK. However, by 1982, there was a sharp decline in spending. In the following years, there were some fluctuations with the UK receiving major tourist revenues in 1996 (around 12 million pounds). Afterwards, there were rises and falls in the money spent. In 2010, the UK commanded approximately 10,700 million pounds from overseas visits.
Regarding the pie chart, while in 1980 holiday, business and friend-related visits were the major drivers for going to the UK, with 44%, 20%, and 18% respectively, by 2010 holiday-related reasons accounted for 39% of the visits, friends or relatives made up 28% and job-related trips constituted 22%.
Thank you and have a nice day!

graph gives information about the amount of money spent by foreigners in the UK
over the 30-year period from 1980, while the pie charts illustrate the main reasons why they travelled. Overall, the money spent by overseas visitors increased
dramatically over the years. The reasons behind their visits changed
percentagewise with meeting family or friends overtaking business trips, while holidaying
remained at the top. According to the line graph, in 1980, around 8 billion
pounds was spent by overseas visitors to the UK. However, in 1982, there was a
sharp decline in spending. In the following years, there were some fluctuations
with the UK receiving its highest tourist revenues in 1996 (peaking at around 12 billion pounds).
Following that, there were rises and falls in the money spent. In 2010, the UK earned approximately 10.7 billion pounds from overseas visits. Looking at
the pie chart, while in 1980 holiday, business and friend-related visits were
the major drivers for going to the UK, with 44%, 20%, and 18% respectively, by
2010 holiday-related reasons accounted for 39% of the visits, friends or
relatives had increased by roughly a half to make up 28% and job-related trips went up slightly to 22%.
You identified the main points. Be careful with numbers.
