Hi, there! In Portuguese, we have proper adjectives for people who spend a lot of money on futile stuff, and for the ones who don't. Are there any words in English that are used in an informal conversation that can express these meanings? I've found on the internet some kind of: thrift, wisely economical, frugal, stingy, saver, etc... Could you guys tell me which ones are used in real conversation? Thanks a lot in advance!

They are all used, actually. Thrifty and frugal are neutral terms while stingy is a negative term. Hope this helps :)

Para descrever alguém que não gosta de gastar dinheiro: - He is thrifty. - He is very frugal. Para descrever alguém que não é generoso: - He is stingy. - He is tight-fisted. (Imagine alguém que está segurando dinheiro com um aperto muito forte) Para descrever alguém que gasta muito dinheiro sem se importar: - He spends money like water. - He spends money like there is no tomorrow. (Como se o amanhã não existisse...) Good luck!

For “stingy” we might say “tight.”
