I have a fear about speaking English with foreign. What should I do? I'm very nervous. I always think my vocabulary is little and my grammar is poor.

Many Chinese classmates and students I know have this issue but in reality, everyone trying to learn a new language has this fear. What you should do is think about how you would feel when someone is trying to improve their chinese with you, you wouldn’t judge them and you’d probably be more than happy if not excited to help them understand. It’s the same with native English speakers, we really don’t judge and are often impressed and happy for you that you want to learn English. Anxiety around speaking can be hard to get over but just know that anyone here and anyone that has taken the time to either translate what you’re saying or be patient with you, wants you to speak and wants you to make mistakes so that they can help you improve and make sure you are more confident with your ability :) especially in a classroom setting, not speaking at all makes it hard for other people and it can make others feel awkward, think of it like this, you have taken the time to learn a whole new language and you are able enough to communicate and understand even if it’s simple things, that’s a big achievement and as long as you have at least 1 person that you know wants to see you improve, you can use that as a safe space and built up confidence to reach out. 你做得很好! 如果您需要帮助,请随时留言!

Hi fairy. I know it's hard at the beginning and I can totally understand your concerns. Actually, English speakers will not take your little mistakes as big deal. Have faith in yourself and be confident! You will be more fluent if you communicate more often.

See, every language speaker has this fear, but the reality is until you speak more and more, you won't get fluent or confident. So you have to keep at it. Trust me, all those native speakers didn't get to their current level without making lots of mistakes and their parents corrected them over and over again when they were children. Many people will appreciate that you are taking the trouble to learn their language. Some may be even kind enough to correct you or encourage your efforts. If someone does make fun of me or think poorly of me for speaking a language I'm learning, I tell myself, oh, poor person must never have got an opportunity to try new things. It helps me to not feel bad. To build your confidence, you can book conversation lessons with teachers on italki. Almost all of them are patient and understanding, and the practice will build your fluency.

Either native speakers can't speak a foreign language so they will be impressed by your efforts, even if you make mistakes. Or they have learned a foreign language so they will understand the challenges and be patient. Something to keep in mind, if you can't think of the exact word you want, move on. Try to explain it in a different way. And a lot of the time even if you make mistakes with grammar or vocabulary a native speaker will still be able to understand what you mean through context. :)

Hi, many people have tried to learn a new language at some point in their life so they will be patient and understanding. If you face your fear, you will be so happy you did! As with anything in life, the more you practice, the better you will get :) . Keep up the good work 😃
