This is not a book but it's good, short readings.

This guy / this site (He is an award-winning UK teacher) takes articles in real English and makes them progressively easier (Level 6, Level 5, Level 4) so you can choose the right level (and then, read UP)

He also makes audio files for these articles and you can choose the speed (slowest / slow / normal / fast / very fast)

(I don't know him -- I just like his approach and recommend his site because it's all free)

Wren and Martin Book

I recommend reading children's books to start.  Perhaps something meant for an 6-12 year old, that way you won't get too frustrated with the vocabulary and the grammar.
