It is a truth universally acknowledged, that Pride and Prejudice is amazing

I'm trying to read Pride and Prejudice in English. It's a little bit hard, Austen's prose is very pleasant but complex. I really love it.

What do you think about this novel? What's your favourite passage, character or dialogue?

I watched lots of film adaptations of Pride and Prejudice: I like so much the British television drama (made in 1995) and two funny series adapted from the novel, Lost in Austen and The Lizzie Bennet Diaries. Have you ever seen them or could you suggest me another one?

I remember the first time I tried to read it, I gave up after 50 pages. I tried again a few years later, read it straight through and enjoyed it.  In my opinion, the book is hard work as the level of circumlocution is extreme, even by the standards of the classics of English literature.

Have you watched "Lark Rise to Candleford"?  It's a series set in a fictional market town.  It's light drama but well done and the development of the characters and plotlines is engaging.

Loved it, especially as I share the same name with its heroine !

I've read practically all of Austen's books, but I love the Bronte sisters better.

I hope to succeed in my "mission", I read it many times in Italian, but it's great to enjoy this novel in its mother language.

I never watched it, but it seems to be very interesting. I'll watch it!

Thank you, Michael!

@Shoeb: I love it, first of all, for its narrative style. That's why I started reading the novel in English (little by little XD).

@Elizabeth-Anne "Lizzie": I like the Bronte sister, too, Emily above all.

I totally agree with Calvino and his famous essay about the classics: http://www.nybooks.com/articles/1986/10/09/why-read-the-classics/.
