Even native English speakers dread the challenge essay writing presents when it's used as a check point in academic coursework. Practice and some good advice like the suggestions in this article can go a long way to making it easier.
Thank you very much for this article,
As a student majoring in English, I found it very difficult to improve my writings skills. As you have mentioned I was one of those who focus on writing for the exams and never tried something else, and in my readings too I read only for my subjects at school. I always have done well in understanding and getting the relevant information, but I found it difficult to write them down.
I had to do something, so I tried to compare my improvement with Arabic which is not my native language too, but I have become fluent in it. Two things I found very important that everyone would need to improve their writing; which you have mentioned in your article, reading and writing, and it must be beyond someone's major. It might seem hard at the beginning, but with a massive reading and writing there will be an improvement.
I'm learning such a writing skill with books for high school students though I'm not a student.
One of my tips is to use Text-to-Speech apps to proofread. I can listen it more objectively.
