Hi..Special is something that is better than other things. e.g a birthday is special compared to an ordinary day.
Particular -> can refer several, related, concepts, but has the idea that one thing has characteristics that make it stand out in some way.

Special usually describes something that is different among a group of things that are similar.
Particular usually describes one thing among a group, but it does not imply that it is different from the others.
