Григорий: So you actually wrote that comment, just to let us know that you can't say

what you want to say about the Arabic culture?

Oh poor thing! just let me gather my shattered pieces because of the breakdown I had

after such a statement! ;)

I, personally don't give a damn what you think! Whether you continue poisoning italki

with your hateful comments or leave soon, this is the least of my concerns. Just wanted

to let you know how silly you sound since you joined; trying to offend the Arab OPs

of discussions on italki!

If you want to write such statements to gain popularity as a hater, then go on. We had

many members like you, who in the end crawled back under their rocks; their natural place

of living.

I guess I want to know whether Arabs identify with a singular "Arab culture". That seems to me a very broad term, covering several geographical areas (Levantine, Gulf, North Africa), nationalities (Saudi, Jordanian, Lebanese, etc.), and I've heard of smaller tribal and family distinctions too ('ashira, qabila, fukhdh, beit, khams). Do Arabs feel comfortable generalising about themselves as "Arabs", or do they prefer to identify by nationality? Also, are tribal distinctions confined to Iraq or do they exist across the Arab world?

Sometimes Asians will ask me to comment on "western culture", and it makes me feel a bit uncomfortable. I do think we can talk loosely about "western civilisation" (rooted in ancient Greek philosophy, influenced by Christianity and further defined by modern movements like the Enlightenment), but the western world is still very diverse. An American, a British, a Chilean and a German are all westerners but have very different habits, values, etc. and have gone through very different histories.

I'm not sure whether you feel that applies to "the Arab world".

Happy Ramadan Somayeh...

I have one question...i am Muslim and i have many respect to hijab in your country...but it is question for me why women cover all their face in Arab countries? i read in Quran about hijab of women...but it says it isn't necessary women cover their face...they should cover ears, hairs and neck...i see some women in south of Iran cover all their face too...could you explain me why?

Thank you so much for your response...

Can you tell me please when Ramadan will start this year and what it means to you? At what age you started fasting? How do you cope without drinking during the day etc. And I also would like to know if a non-Muslim wishes a Muslim  a happy feast what does he say? Can you write it also in Arabic? Shukran!
