Good luck to your learning. Thanks for your question to let me think of how difficult it was when I was a young boy.
Chinese language is so easy, when you find a GOOD teacher explaining pinyin, strokeorder and radicals in a good funny way
I was fluent in 10 month ... every language is easy, when you live in the country
Chinese is said to be one of the most difficult for English speakers. I agree with that because Chinese isn't like most European languages, where there are similarities with other countries' languages, such as Spanish and Portuguese, Dutch and German, Swedish and Norwegian, etc.
Chinese (Mandarin) can be learnt easily by speakers of Chinese dialects, such as Shanghainese, Hokkien, Cantonese, Hakka, etc. But the speakers of these languages are concentrated MOSTLY only inside one country.
Other reason is Chinese is not a phonetic language, it is not What You See Is What You Get. Even native Chinese speakers can forget how to write certain characters, especially in the era of the computers where Chinese characters are typed not written by hand. Because in typing, users only need to input the phonetic and tones, then choose the desired character.
Other difficulty is in the spoken and written form, for example here are several words for "and" 和 跟 與 以及 並. It must be confusing for foreigners.
Nevertheless, I find speaking Chinese to be the easiest, and I learnt to speak Chinese very quick and naturally from communication. When I say something wrong, the person whom I'm speaking will say it correctly and I'll remember it.
