Help me please! I don't know the difference between the خ and غ!

Hi Gabriel,

There are some excellent responses here. I would just add, by way of explanation, that these are guttural sounds, meaning that they come from the back of the throat. As mentioned in the video link provided by Miriam, خ is very similar to the Spanish jota and غ is very similar to the French r. If you are not familiar with those sounds from Spanish and French (nor German, as also mentioned in the video), I would offer the following guidance:

Simulate the act of gargling with mouthwash. In the same way that you control the flow of air through your throat while gargling, you will control the air in producing the غ sound.

As for خ , I would compare it to an effort to remove something from one's throat, as it involves a more forceful production of air than غ.

In short, you will access the same part of the throat for both sounds, and you will constrict the throat in both cases -- the major difference is that غ more fully restricts the flow of air, while خ more forcefully pushes the air through the throat, allowing it to escape.

I hope that helps somewhat. Good luck!

You can deffrinciate between them by memorizing words that contain those letters.

 For example:

-غريب  strange  /ghareeb/

-خيار cucumber  /khiar/

I hope that helps.Do you need more examples?

These are two different Arabic words and have totally different pronunciation, u can understand this by some examples...

غ = GH, خ = kh

Look at these words : غریب meaning Poor will be written as Ghareeb

خراب meaning Bad will be written as Kharaab
