Please tell me about your country's foreign language education.

We Japanese have to study English since middle school. Japan's English curriculum aims to get a high score on exams so we are basically taught grammar and reading textbook, not speaking.

We have to read super difficult articles like The Economics to enter better universities. So, we memorize a lot of words and phrases and English teachers teach us how to read. However, most of the colleges don't give speaking test so we don't have to study speaking.

That's why almost all Japanese cannot speak English even though they've been studying it such a long time.

What do you think this curriculum? And I just want to know your country's foreign language education system.

In my country students usually start learning English at the age of 7 (or even 6 currently) and many upper secondary schools offer French and Spanish. In some schools Latin is taught in addition.

In the Philippines, we speak 2 languages- English and Filipino. So English is not considered a foreign language here. Foreign languages in the Philippines are optional- most schools here do not teach foreign languages, though if ever they do- they just teach the basics. I think they should include that in the curriculum

Growing up in America I dont think ours is very good either. Alot of people here learn spanish but even after years of taking these classes still cannot speak the language very well. But in my experience now with language learning i believe that school should be used as a secondary way of helping you learn a language, the primary being what you learn on your own time with books, online lessons, videos, however you learn.

In America language is taught differently in many schools. For example, my hometown has an elementary school(shogakko) that teaches both english and spanish equally. But I didn't go to this school, so I was able to take my first Spanish class in 9th grade(we graduate after 12 grades). So I was only able to take 4 years of a language. This is probably the most common way to learn a foreign language in America. Most people only take two years though. That's why most Americans only know english. Overall, our language education programs are very low in quality and not many people are bilingual. Basically, it is unimportant to our education system if we know foreign languages or not, which is sad. Luckily, there are lots of resources online so we can teach ourselves, like I am currently doing with Japanese and Spanish.

Hi Daiki, i'm from Chile. In this country the english level education is bad for the low social class. Only teach gramatical, but the conversational english never.
