What does mean "Water me down" ?
Hi guys,

I love the song "Water me down" from Vagabon's band.
And I would like to understand better the meaning of water me down.
If someone could give me any collaboration I will really appreciate that.

Cheers

Like someone else said, to 'water something down' is to dilute it. Sometimes it has a negative meaning, like if you are at a bar and say 'the drinks here are watered down', then you mean that there's not a lot of alcohol / flavor in the drink. In other contexts it can have a more neutral meaning, like if you're making soup or sauce, you might want to water it down to make more, or if the flavor is too strong, or it's too thick.

In the context of the song, she says 'you know me better than that, you know i hate it like that, it really waters me down' so she's saying, when this person treats her this way, it dilutes her feelings, it makes her emotion less strong, it decreases her energy. The song starts by saying "never meant to be you, never meant to be me, never meant to be us", so the whole song is sad and disappointed. She's letting the other person know that her feelings are weakening because of their behavior. It's about that feeling when you think things are going really well, but then the other person starts pulling away - the relationship gets 'watered down', it's not as strong anymore.

This isn't something that people say every day because it's more poetic, but if you were to say "our relationship feels watered down" or something like that, most people would know what you mean. Usually it's used to literally talk about putting more water in something. :) Also thanks for this question because now i'm listening to this song and it's lovely!

I’m not familiar with the song. “To water something down” is to dilute it. The connotations are usually negative, for example reducing the delicious flavor or alcohol of a drink. In reference to a person, I suppose it might mean to try to suppress someone’s personality somehow.

She seems to be telling the person she is singing about, to suppress her feelings she is getting too clingy and she seems to be saying. water me down.
It may be referring to a common scenario where when someone in love says this is too good it can't be true. it is not meant to be. But the song is very cryptic like many pop songs. it could mean many things.

It's not a common phrase in English, that I know of, but my best guess is that what she means is along the lines of there are a lot of emotions that she's feeling. She mentions "I'll make you a flood in my.." so when she says "it waters me down," I interpret that as what she is feeling is consuming and there is a lot of it - happiness, frustration, (she says foresight).

It could be related to the phrase "cool off" which, figuratively, is used when you're feeling a lot of emotions and need to calm down: "I'm really frustrated right now, I need to cool off before I can think clearly!"

For me, I would interpret this as something happened, shes feeling a lot of emotions, but what happened - or thinking on what happened - helped clarify some issues so she won't make the same mistakes as she did in the past.

Sorry, this is a very abstract and poetic song - and beautiful! - so it's hard to figure out what she's saying. That's the point of music I suppose :D

I hope that helped
