That is a very interesting question, Peter. I think that Chinese and some other Asian cultures are very different from  the US regarding parents' relationships with their children. Here too, children go to school to learn knowledge, and take exams. We do not have what you call 'psychological education'. But we have a system where the parents and teachers are concerned with children's happiness and emotional balance. A happy, confident child will perform better in school and at home. Another difference in the US is that as children get older, they become treated more as equals with the parents. So in their late teens and twenties, it is often possible to have those "heart-to-heart" conversations that you mention. It seems to me that in China, the arrangement is that a parent is always a parent of the children, and tells even the adult child what to do!  One more difference that I see: in China, parents expect children to take care of them when they are old. That is another reason to push the child to get a high-paying job. In the US, most children, instead of paying back their parents, are expected to pay forward through their children. We still care for (love) and visit our parents, but we are not expected to pay them money for their retirement.  Sorry for the long answer, I have had many Asian friends including 2 ex-girlfriends!

I may be misunderstanding your question. If you are referring to educational psychology, then it is definitely taken seriously in the United States. It is a mandatory class for all teacher candidates in college. There also is continuing education and professional development for teachers, that addresses current trends in educational psychology.

If, on the other hand, you are referring to the psychological well-being of students, that is also taken seriously in the United States. Most schools employ social workers and school psychologists who support the psychological and social health of students. One other point - college and professional sports teams have team psychologists.

All parents and teachers want is their children can go to a famous college and have a good job.Psychological education is alawys been ignored by parents and teachers . Every country has different education system. I think Peter means that children psychologies, or student psychologies are considerable things or not in any education systems. In this case, population, good education possibilities, high school and university enter exam conditions are more important things in designing an education systems. For example in my country (Turkey) there are two ways in education, private ways and public ways, including Universities. Student can attend private schools with payment or scholarship although all public schools are totally free even lessons material for every students. That’s why they don't want to pay big money or they don't have enough money they should try to recruit their children to public schools or private schools with scholarship. Therefore, students in that kind of countries are in a race like a horse and they must work hard, get good point for their local or national exams and in the end they must enter among chosen students. Such as education systems are exam based systems and difficult to say student psychologies are more considerable things in this kind of education. The other things is about take care of parents. Yes, generally eastern culture force to children to take care of their parents and relatives. In the same time parents take care of children until they have a good job and make enough money. In my opinion, this are not bad things. Take after children is an emotional things and it is not burden for parents. But take after parents can be a burden and children should carry this burden because they owe their everything to their parents. Hence, society get to bound to each other with strong ties and they are happy even though they are poor.
