I am Chinese, my English was horrible bad, i just could say ABC in the past, but my friend(he is a Chinese also) would go to Austria, I very want to go with him, so , I did my best to study English. Now, my English not very well I think, but it is too much better than I could do. I studied Enlish just for I want to go with my friend, but now, I'd like to study English, If my English was good, I could talk with foreign people, I could write in English, I could watch English books.what about you?my friends?
I also love languages and traveling. I think you will have no problems to establish basic conversations with people from all over the world in English. I come across problems when trying to do things more sofisticated, or talking to native English speakers from Scotland (I don't understand a single word).
Like you, I learn English hard everyday. What irritates me most is when I travel to an English speaking country and I encounter people with Asian origin working or living there, and I don't understand them at all. They often get angry and feel surprised like if was a racist o something, but the true is that some people, even if they are born there, have a terrible accent, very different from the standard one. Anyway, I know It is my problem, not theirs, so I will have to focus on listening and work harder.
Cheers
Do you mean Australia or Austria? We speak English in Australia, but you'd need to learn German to go to Austria.
Australia, I am sorry.
