What are the traditional ways of celebrating New Year (December 31st/January 1st) in your country?

In Russia it is really important day and we prefer to meet the New Year at home with our family. We start planning an entertainment  2-3 month before. We buy a beautiful New Year's Tree and decorate it with toys, little colored lights, sweets and stars. We cook a lot of food for our holiday supper. At 12 o'clock we sit at the table with our relatives and say each other best wishes for the New Year. The New Year is always connected with our new plans and dreams. At night we watch TV, dance, make jokes and go for a walk. There is also a second New Year recognized in Russia – the Old New Year, which takes place after the regular New Year.

I am interested in how you usually celebrate New Year. What is the traditional New Year food? How are you going to celebrate the holiday?

In Ireland, people often have a party with friends or family, or go out to an event in a pub or bar. Many people get dressed up in fancy clothes as it’s a special occasion. After the countdown to the New Year, anyone that is in a relationship will usually begin the year by giving their partner a kiss! :)

Here in the US it really depends on the person how they want to celebrate. Some people spend time with their families, some go out a party, and some just stay at home. They do have events for families to go for New Year's to celebrate.  I mainly celerbrate the new year by going out with my friends to a nice lounge.
