Chinese is not a romantic language. Is that true?

A student of mine told me Chinese was not a romantic language because the pronunciation of 我爱你(I love you)was so strong. 爱 is the 4th tone, so it should be read strongly. Chinese is a language with tones that make Chinese full of rhythm. Actually the rhythm of tones makes Chinese more beautiful. We also think I should speak out loudly if I really love you. Ok, please tell the people you love loudly 我爱你.

I think any language can be romantic if you try hard enough. :)

Myeah, Mandarin doesn't really sound sexy. Not sure if it's because of tones or not, because Cantonese actually can sound sexy and Cantonese has tones as well. Perhaps it's the vowel-consonant relationship. All vowels are kinda straightforward and there are way fewer mixed vowels. Another thing might be air, some languages just seem to have a heavier flow of air for vowels which just sounds sexy for some reason. I think it might be the latter since Belgian Dutch is very similar to normal Dutch but women with a Belgian accent just sound way sexier. The consonents are more soft, and harsh sounds like the throat "g" are instead pronounced at the front of the mouth. So it all sounds like it's air coming out, nothing harsh and rough. Which consequently also makes the men sound very feminine.

really ?I never relazied that chinese with so strong tones.....I think it's okkk..and I think the strong tones depends on different people ,some one may speaks loudly and quickly then it may sounds strong ..some one speaks softly and slowly it may sounds more comfortable ,or in your words ,romantic..

Interesting point there, Ruthi. Perhaps not knowing a language will also make it slightly sexier in some cases. Since you're solely listening to sounds, rather than words. Once you get the hang of it, your feelings may change. When I started learning Chinese I thought it sounded very interesting in terms of the tones and all. You could sometimes just get lost trying to get tones, just drifting on from first to third to fourth to second to third and so on. Now (unfortunately?) that feeling has gone away since I can understand what is actually being said.
