Listening the Song "Du Shu Lang"(读书郎) Again One day, I brought my son to a park to play the merry-go-round (carousel). When the wooden horses began to rotate, my son had his fun, and I was moved by its accompaniment song called ‘Du Shu Lang’ or ‘A little school kid’. The song tells a story about a kid during the period of the Republic of China. The kid went to school day after day. The burning sun and the storm could not deter him; however, what he feared most was just being scolded as a lazy guy by his teacher. He did not intend to become an official or gain some reputation through study; he only wanted not to be bullied or to be used like cattle and sheep. I heard this song when I was a child. Listening to this song again recalled my childhood and also evoked my thought. What should a kid study for? Just as the song predicted decades of years ago, a good score in school do not ensure a job in the government today. At the same time, a doctor diploma does not necessarily gain the admiration from the society. That is to say, the expectations would be very likely to be in vain, if the study is only in pursuit of the reputation and the public power. However, during the process of studying, one can naturally obtain some abilities of analyzing problems. Thus, he can form his own ideas, his own principles, and does not need to be told what he should do any longer. As a result, treating him like cattle and sheep is almost impossible, as the song have told in its lyrics. This song was originally written by a communist party member, but it had been out of the public eye since the communist revolution. It’s modified version was re-introduced into the mainland China by several singers from Taiwan after the “opening policy”. I guess it will continue to be welcomed in the future generations, because it tells a basic truth in our society.

How quaint.  Merry-go-rounds are a thing of the past.  One does not see such things in the US except in Disneyland and as relics of the rural past.  No commas before "and", "but", "because", "or" as these are conjunctions used to connect sentences with them in the middle.  One use of the comma is for pausing.  This means that if you need a comma before such conjunction means that your sentence is too long and needs to be separated by a period or a semicolon.

1.  We know what is a merry-go-round is.  Putting the meaning implies insult to your readers.  If they don't know, they should consult their dictionaries privately.

2.  If the conditions are so adverse, the school would be closed and he would be stupid to go for a fruitless task.  Then the lesson would be in stupidity.

3.  Accused is a better word.  The kid knows he is not lazy.  However he is afraid that he is perceived as such by his teacher.
