I am learning Mandarin because I have several friends who speak Mandarin, and I want to learn. I am taking a class next semester at my college.

Sounds great!! I have class for the beginners. I wish everybody has fun with learning Chinese at the very beginning, instead of being scared of the complexity of Chinese. I will be glad to help you on your study no matter you take my class or not. Have fun with it!
