A good friend.
My beloved dog just passed away. He was already fourteen years old.We shared almost half of my life together.I´ve experienced only two deaths in my life, my grandmother´s and now my dog. I know some of you will say, how could you compare a human being and a dog.But I feel both were family to me.
Last year he still got energy to play, but this year he could´t hear or see properly. He also had difficulties when he was trying to walk.He doesn´t bark anymore. Last wednesday he suddenly start to bark.So I went out to see him, and he could´t stand up.A veterinarian took him and he stayed two nights in the clinic. He didn´t improved in those two days. And the veterinarian said that he was suffering a lot.We take him back to our home on Friday and we take care of him all night. He was in real pain so we had to call the veterinarian again. This morning we had to put him to sleep. It was a extremely difficult decision to make, but seeing him suffering and not be capable to do something to help him was even worse. My family is very sad, we are trying to do random stuffs in the house , like cleaning or doing laundry...just for stop thinking about it.I just hope he didn´t feel pain and that now he is really sleeping forever. And as my brother says, now he´ll be our garden keeper forever. We decided no more pets, we got so attached with these dog, that we don´t want to see another pet in pain and die.
Sorry to share a sad feeling with you, but I hope these release me a little bit of pain.

I think I was 10 years old when my dog join our family. And the experience of the death of my grandmother was the same as yours.I did not see anything and I was little so I didn´t understand much, but obviously I was sad.
Today we are more calm, knowing that he is not suffering anymore. But we still do things we used to do when he was alive, like my mother wake up early and went out to give him food. And I always watched him trough the window before a meal. It´s hard to get used to see the backyard empty.

Oh, especially if you know the dog from childhood, it is a special friend. I know my dog died and about a year later my grandmother. I was 14. The death of my dog was móre shocking to me. It was the first death I had seen, I saw my dog passing away in only a day. The friend was suddenly a stiff body in the shed. My grandmother died and it was a telephone call and a funeral and a wooden coffin, but I did not see the corpse. And it was my second confrontation with death.
