I found this Tagalog language introduction on the Seasite NIU website (http://www.seasite.niu.edu/Tagalog/). I've found this entire website to be a great resource for anyone studying Tagalog, though I believe an intermediate student would benefit the most from their material.

I've also included an English translation of the introduction. Note that after working a literal translation, I modified the text to standard English with what I could translate. Trying to find the root Tagalog word really helped with this exercise. I wish I could say the translation is all mine, but Google Translator helped me with some of the words I didn't know. Regardless, it turned out to be a helpful exercise to measure progress. Feel free to add any comments that may be helpful to other language learners.

The study of language can be easy for some and difficult for others. Who is it difficult for and who is it easy for?  The study of language can be easy for some people and very difficult for others. Who finds it difficult (or who are having difficulty) and who finds it easy?

The people that have difficulty are shy and weak inside. The people who are having difficulty are shy and weak inside.They don't open their mouth because they are afraid to slip. They don't want to open their mouth because they are afraid to commit mistake/s. They don't (reproach) correct diction or incorrect (fellowship) when speaking. They don't want to be criticized for the wrong pronunciation or incorrect grammar. They don't speak unless they assume they are correct in what they say. They won't speak unless they think that what they are going to say is (just) right.

The (good students) aren't ashamed to slip. Those who find it easy aren't afraid to commit mistakes. Even (when twisted) they force themselves to speak. Eventhough it's crooked, they try hard to speak. They are strong inside. They have the guts.
