I have no courage to chat I have been learning english for many years, but it's a pity that I just can read and write some. Spoken english and listening is the hardest thing in my english study. Seveal days ago, I have added someone on myskype, and we chated for a while. during that, I was so nervous that I can't understand him exactly, and speak clearly. Afterwards, he removed me out of his friend list. Originally, I'm not confident enough, now the situation get worse. I'm so sad

I have no courage to chat

I have been learning English for many years, but it's a pity that I just can read and write some. Spoken English and listening is are the hardest things in my English study.
Several days ago, I have added someone on my skype, and we chatted for a while. During that, I was so nervous that I couldn't understand him exactly, and speak clearly. Afterwards, he removed me out of his friend list.
Originally, I'm not confident enough, now the situation gets worse. I'm so sad.

Nobody who gave up the first time they fell off a bicycle is able to ride a bike. All those who can ride a bike got back on after the first fall.

I feel the same! I'm very nervous to speak Chinese in case I am not understood. My Chinese is very basic, but when I am free, look for me on Skype, I won't delete you and hopefully we can give each other confidence :) I am sure after a few chats we will feel much more at ease! I think you already are on my Skype (rob.flye) so don't be shy! :)

Please don't be discouraged. Learning a second language is like learning how to ride a bicycle. In the beginning you fall a lot, but later, after a lot of practice you improve. Learning a language takes many years, so do not expect that your skills will be excellent in a short time... it takes a lot of practice. Let me ask you a question? I know 50 Mandarin expressions. I can't write them, I have trouble understanding what people say to me, and my pronunciation is not good. Do you think I should stop trying? Of course the answer is NO - I should keep trying my best, and you should too. My Mandrin pronunciation is not good, but I am proud because I am trying to speak another person's language and good people respect me because they understand that it is difficult for me to speak their language, but they are happy because I am trying. Try to find one or two English speakers who are patient and happy to help you, and you will improve quickly. Never stop trying... zhu ni hao yun

Hello, I was in the same situation few years ago. My english was good (in my eyes). I could write, read, but I had a lack of self-confidence while talking. I took an international course, where I was able only to use English and since then I basically have never stopped talking :) (in English). I would like to start with Mandarin, but right know my knowledge is only "ni hao" and how to count "1-10"! Feel free to add me!
