Exercise: Letter to My Australian Collegue TASK DESCRIPTION You should spend no more than 20 minutes on this task. An Australian colleague is going to your country for a conference. He/She will spend several days in your home town, and has written a letter to you asking for advice about things to see and do there. Write a letter to the colleague suggesting what he/she should see and do while he/she is in your home town. You should write at least 150 words. You do NOT need to write your own address (unless you want to waste your precious 20 minutes). MY LETTER: Dear John, It’s my pleasure to offer my advice to your trip to Shanghai. I think it’s really a great idea to spend some time here and I’m sure you’ll enjoy it. Shanghai is famous for a number of cultural attractions. Among them, the Yu Garden, I believe, is most visited by travelers. Many of my foreign friends who have visited it say that its classical and artificial beauty is memorable. This is the place I’d suggest you be. Near the garden, there is a restaurant that serves the cuisine named after Shanghai, Shanghainese Dumplings. These are delicate and juicy dumplings that have a unique taste. In addition, the atmosphere of the restaurant is also enjoyable. Though situated in the downtown area of Shanghai, its silence coupled with the sightseeing of the garden is an escape from the hustle and bustle of modern urban life. All these advantages aside, the total cost for all these is quite reasonable. I’m confident that you won’t regret your spending in this activity. So I recommend them to you. Hope to see you soon. And if you wish, I can receive you at the airport. Best regards, Melaminefree
