Writers searching for the beauty: Nguyen Tuan and Thach Lam
Nguyen Tuan and Thach Lam were both writers spending all their lives searching for the beauty in life; however, their ways of expression were very much different. Nguyen Tuan was a romanticist, whereas Thach Lam was a romantic realist. Romanticists put emphasis on the exotic and unfamiliar, while romantic realists combine both romantic and realistic elements. In this case, Thach Lam based his works more on the real life. For the reason above, Nguyen Tuan’s works focused on achievements of heroic individuals and artists. In contrast, Thach Lam’s stories were about quotidian commonplace activities and life of the middle or lower class of the society. Furthermore, unlike Thach Lam’s creative writing style, that of Nguyen Tuan was more intricate and detailed, with long multi-clause sentences. In conclusion, in spite of distinct differences, their writings reflected the life beautifully and truthfully.
[Excellent. 'Quotidian' is indeed a word, but I have never seen it used. Very few native speakers even know what it means.]
