娘 = woman + good ie good woman. Thus a bride means a new good woman. You must remember the traditional Chinese culture is that a man can have many wives he wants! 三妻四妾

It's means she will become a woman from a girl since that day. And because of it, we say the bride is new in that day as it's a new begining.
