The table below gives information about changes in modes of travel in England between 1985 and 2000.
Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
The table shows the changes in the average distance of means of travel in England in 1985 and 2000.
The amount of average distance travelled by all means rose from 4,740 mile per person per year to 6,475 mile per person per year in 2000. The figure for the distance travelling by car per person per year was the highest in 1985(3,199 mile) and 2000(4,806 mile), while the figure for the taxi was the lowest in 1985(13 mile), although it doubled the figure in 2000(42 mile), it remained in the lower level.
The amount of distance travlled by long distance bus, by train and by other modes of travel saw an upward trend between 1985 and 2000, particular for long distance bus, rose from 54 mile to 124 mile in 2000, doubling the figure in 1985.
There was a decile for the distance travelled by walking, by bicycle and by local bus, and the amount of bicycle travel was the lowest in 2000(41 mile), 1 mile lower than that of taxi(42 mile).
Overall, residents in England were more willing to travle in 2000 than in 1985 and the most popular travle mode was travelling by car while travelling by taxi and bicycle were the least popular one.
