From one point of view, parents have the duty to do that. A family is just like kids’ first school and the parents are the first teachers in their lives, so the words and behaviors from the parents always have a tremendous impact on their children. No one knows kids better than their parents, which means parents should put the teaching task on their shoulders. A good example set by parents will be much helpful to build kids’ personalities and lead them onto the path of being a good member of society. However, a kid’s education can never be end up with the family teaching. So the school is the second place to continue this training task. Different from the family, a school is much more like a society in miniature. Children there are being taught how to deal with their peers and their own emotional problems. Companionship, teamwork spirit, competition and so forth, which only can be learnt on campus, are necessary factors in children’s future careers. It is not wise to draw a conclusion about which one should take the full responsibilities because children’s education is based on the interaction of those two. No one can deny that the family and the school play important roles in human’s life and both of them are the essential prerequisite for children to be good members of society.

My notobook entry:
Children’s education is closely linked to their parents and schools. However, there is an ongoing argument about which one should take the vast majority of the responsibility of turning them into good members of society. (note: we don't usually say that you cultivate somebody to be something... however, you can cultivate someone's love of music, cultivate the development of something)

From one point of view, parents have the duty to do that. A family is just like kids’ first school and their parents are the first teachers in their lives, so their parents' words and behaviors from the parents always have a tremendous impact on their children. No one knows kids better than their parents, which means parents should take on the task of teaching their children. A good example set by parents will be very helpful to build kids’ personalities and lead them onto the path of being a good member of society.

However, a kid’s education doesn't end with the family teaching. So the school is the second place to continue this training task. Different from the family, (this is a little awkward in English; you could make it a separate sentence to make it better, for example: schools are different from families. School is much more..)a school is much more like a society in miniature. Children there are being taught how to deal with their peers and their own emotional problems. Companionship, teamwork spirit, competition and so forth, which only can only be learnt on campus (this is usually reserved for colleges and universities; if you want to talk about an elementary school, you just use "at school"), are necessary factors for children’s future careers.

It is not wise to draw a conclusion about which one should take the full responsibilities because children’s education is based on the interaction of those two. No one can deny that families and schools (when talking generally, we often pluralize things and leave out the article) play important roles in human’s lives and both of them are the essential prerequisites for children to be good members of society.
