Mentiras The Musical Review
During the 80 & 90’s in Mexico, and a big part of Latin America, people listened to music that was imposed by the media, with tv shows such as ‘Siempre en domingo’, and ‘Always on sunday’.
In those days, tv and radio was the main media. There were no computers, smartphones or internet, allowing people to know many other kinds of performancers and musicians. millions of people grew up liking that music.
About 6 years ago, mexican theater opened with a musical called ‘Mentiras El Musical’ or ‘Lies The Musical’, recounting the songs and creating a story related to the 80's.
‘Mentiras’ is about 4 women and the funeral of 1 man who cheated on each of them. According to the will, one of them killed him.
The musical has been a real success in Mexico, comparable with ‘Mamma Mia’ in USA. Some critics attribute that phenomena to nostagia, because audiences remember those times when they heard that music over and over again.
An interesting thing is that all those songs are about cheating, being heartbroken and being an independent and strong woman, and these lyrics fit perfectly into the story of a woman who has been cheated on.
