Hello!
What does "readies" mean in the context below. I only know 'ready' as an adjective....
"Brenda readies her notebook and pen, and the girls huddle up for a few final words from Coach Rachel."

It just an informal way for referring to "get ready"(set up, prepare. etc)

READY can be a verb. It basically means PREPARE / GET READY.
