This is a ruler. You use it to underline your work. You can also use it to measure things. If you are measuring an object, align the object (1) with the left side of the zero mark on the ruler. The left side of the line where the object ends will be its measurement in centimeters.

(1) I added in “the object” because “it” could refers to the ruler. You could instead say “said object”.
