职业教师Today we are taking a break from our phrasal verbs series to talk about something else. I know phrasal verbs can be overwhelming. Little by little, you’ll pick up those phrasal verbs and sooner or later you’ll feel confident with them.
Today's lesson is on binomial pairs—very common pairs of words we always use together in the same way with a special meaning. Here's our list for today:
• little by little: slowly, but steadily
• sooner or later: eventually
The rest with examples:
• first and foremost
Oh, so you’re going on a road trip—well, a word of advice: First and foremost, buy paper map—you don’t want to get lost without GPS.
• part and parcel
Look, Kayla, you can’t make everyone happy—to offend some people is part and parcel of being a manager.
• short and sweet
I need you to explain to me why my car repairs cost so much, please, and keep it short and sweet, I’m not a mechanic, I’m not going to understand everything.
• give or take
I’m 185 centimeters tall, give or take.
• time after time
If you're lost, you can look and you will find me, time after time.
